About the artist

Emerging artist Carolina Hardigree lives and works in Austin, Texas, specializing in figurative fine art and nontraditional portraits. Her acrylic paintings are inspired by self-development and nature, and are created in a Magical Realist style.  Beginning with the conceptual, her works incorporate elements of allegory and symbolism, lending them a kind of universality.  Animals, plants, and figures serve as mythic symbols of love, anxiety, (in)justice, solitude, and growth in a landscape of organic forms, patterns, and rich color celebrating the natural world.  Some artists she is inspired by are Ben Shahn, John Singer Sargent, Marc Chagall, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Mary Cassett, Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Eyvind Earle, Maxfield Parrish, Erte, Julie Speed, Elizabeth Layton, Henk Pander, Virginia Lee, Henri Rousseau, and Hundertwasser.  Her current projects include exploring Social Realist themes, landscapes, and creating dioramas.
